Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy: Information and Updates

Latest Update: Late summer and early fall 2026

The latest updates cover support for managing Individualized Funding, a new training program for disability support leaders, and opportunities to take part in the Human Rights Remedy evaluation.

Nova Scotia has selected Seafair to build the Individualized Funding Backbone. This system will offer optional support for people who manage their own funding, with the aim of making Individualized Funding easier to use.

A new Disability Support Leadership Program begins in September. Twenty supervisors from across Nova Scotia will take part in seven training sessions. People with disabilities and leaders in the disability support sector helped develop the training.

The external evaluation team is inviting people with disabilities, families, supporters, service providers, and Disability Support Program staff to describe their experiences with the Remedy. People can take part through a survey or a virtual focus group. Accessibility supports are available. People with disabilities and family members who take part in a 90 minute virtual focus group will receive a $50 thank you payment.

What does this mean for your family?

At Inclusion Nova Scotia, we are excited about what this means for individuals and families. It’s an opportunity to build a better system – one that truly supports people to live independent, full lives. We are passionate about working alongside individuals, families and partners to shape a future where everyone has access to the supports they need to thrive.

We can support you and you with:

  • Information and Advocacy: We help individuals and families understand their rights under the Human Rights Remedy and can help you advocate for supports and services that reflect the inclusive life that you want.

  • Person-Directed Planning and Visioning: We can support you and your family to explore what ‘a good life’ in community looks like and help with making a plan

  • Bringing Families Together: We create spaces for families to connect, share experiences and work together to advocate

We also host information sessions for families, organizations, businesses and community partners about the Human Rights Remedy. These sessions include an overview of the Human Rights Remedy, the 6 key directives, where are we now in the 5-year plan and ideas on what can be possible because of the changes.
